The Breitling Top Time watch in the picture below was recently purchased at a garage sale for a mere $30 and it is now projected to sell at Chistie’s auction for $60,500 and $90,750.
What makes it so valuable you ask?
This Breitling Top Time watch was ACTUALLY worn by Sean Connery in the 1965 movie Thunderball and no other examples of this watch exist! This watch was made by Breitling in 1962 and was tranformed into a one of kind piece by the James Bond art department. In true Bond fashion, the watch was not only cool it was also functional. The Q branch equipped it with a “Geiger counter” to detect any emission of Nuclear radiation.
According to The Telegraph, the watch was purchased at a garage sale by a bargain hunter a couple of years ago. The article goes on to say “Knowing they had purchased something quite special, the buyer, who wants to remain anonymous, took the watch to an expert to be valued. But they were said to be shocked to hear how much it was actually worth and of its film heritage.”
We have seen some pretty rare watches walk through our doors but none as cool as this!

Fabulous Jewels from Chopard Missing – Local police confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter Friday that more than $1 million dollars worth of jewelry from Chopard’s Red Carpet collection has been stolen. The jewelry was intended to be lent out to grace the necks and ears of celebrities walking the red carpet. Apparently, the thieves took the entire wall safe out of the room of the Chopard representative who was staying at the Suite Novetel Cannes. Thank God she was not there when the burglary took place! For complete coverage of this outrageous heist visit Hollywood Reporter website.
Chopard jewelry is always a celeb favorite and Cannes is traditionally a big showcase for all of the big clothing designers and jewelry brands.
Fresh from Basel, it will be interesting to see what collections the big European jewelry houses will bring to the U.S. for the 2013 Couture show which starts in less than a month. It no secret that outside the world of diamonds, international watch brands and big name designer jewelry, demand has been kind of lack luster for generic goods. This is because there are no earth shattering trends that every jewelry manufacturer can ride the momentum of. In years past, the shift from yellow gold jewelry to white metals like platinum and white gold was remarkable. Countless clients couldn’t wait to reset their diamonds into new platinum settings from likes of Scott Kay and Jewels by Star. Soon yellow gold became passe and everyone had to have white. If you were producing above average jewelry designs in white gold or platinum in the late 90′s and early 2000 you struck gold! Of course the economy was flying when this seismic shift occurred and that didn’t hurt either.
Fast forward 15 years and nothing has moved the needle across all price points like the shift from yellow gold to white. Sure there have been bright spots, like the circle of love necklace from Roberto Coin that was featured on an iconic daytime TV show and then there was the watch with “feel good technology” which received a ton of press. Let’s not forget the “Year of the Dragon” and the John Hardy Naga Dragon collection which captured the essence of 2012; all of these were gigantic individual successes but they didn’t move the needle industry wide. The only thing that has even come close to the yellow – white shift was the alternative metal and sterling silver jewelry movement. It was challenging for many fine jewelers (with the exception of Tiffany and David Yurman retailers) to embrace in the beginning, but it ended up being such an important trend that it pulled many jewelers right through the recession.
Now that the recession seams to be easing, everyone in the jewelry business wishes they had a crystal ball to predict the next big thing. This is the main reason why jewelers from across the globe travel to trade fairs like Vicenza and Basel to try to get a jump on trends before the competition does.
At the Basel fair this year, multiple vendors said they are selling fewer things but what they are selling is extremely high quality. The big trend (other than it being the year of the snake) seems to be fine emeralds and other precious gemstone jewelry!
The prices have jumped considerably for the right articles. One wonders if this trend will carry over to the U.S. at the Couture Show that is right around the corner. It would be wonderful if it does because as jewelers, we love precious color and all things rare. There is nothing more rewarding than embracing a trend that has intrinsic value and will stand the test of time and to be ultimately cherished by future generations.
For the extremely active and daring individual, Breitling has created a masterpiece unlike any other. It had been long speculated that after the change of frequencies by the COSPAS-SARAT system in 2009 from 121.5MHZ to 406MHZ that Breitling would redesign the infamous Emergency I. Finally, after years of speculation; The Breitling Emergency II has been released. The Emergency II is the first wristwatch with a dual frequency Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) that is perfect for all situations.
The watch is available in a titanium case and bracelet with three distinct dial colors, Cobra orange, Intrepid yellow and Volcano black. Boasting the highly accurate SuperQuartz, Caliber 76 COSC certified movement, sapphire crystal and LCD digital display; Breitling has made a technical piece of art.
One groundbreaking new feature of the Emergency II is the state-of-the art rechargeable battery. A first for Breitling, this rechargeable battery provides more power and energy storing than any other SuperQuartz watch in the Breitling line. Breitling has also announced a Battery Tester, ala Emergency I; now with the capability of charging the battery and checking the operation of the transmitter.
Breitling has delivered to its watch connoisseurs not only a fine timepiece, but a spectacular life saving device.

Tonight is a nail biter! As authorized Rolex jewelers and huge Rolex aficionados, we at J.R.Dunn Jewelers are very excited to see what Rolex unveils on their website for Basel 2013 in mere couple of hours. There is so much speculation on the web in regards to what will be released; Will it be a new Daytona II in celebration of it’s 50th anniversary or will it be the proliferation of the Yachtmaster II being fabricated in stainless steel. The official Rolex website, www.rolex.com, is starting to reveal some interesting clues. It appears like the new Rolex model for 2013 has a triplock winding crown, which indicates this new release will be a “Sports Model”. The rendering and the cropped photo is in black and white so it is tough to tell what metal the new release is actually fabricated. Could it be a Platinum Daytona or a solid Everose Yachmaster II or perhaps both? The fact of the matter is the only people who know are the fine folks at Rolex. There is nobody even close to them when it comes to building anticipation and keeping world guessing at what the next great timepiece will be (at least for one more night this year anyways)! Stay tuned…We are headed for Basel to find out when the new Rolex models will be arriving in the states and ultimately right here at J.R.Dunn Jewelers, your authorized Rolex Jeweler in South Florida.
