Everyone knows, diamonds are “a girl’s best friend” but they are also a big investment. Before you start shopping for the perfect diamond, it’s essential to find out what’s most important to you. Here are the four c’s to keep in mind:
The way a diamond is cut and polished affects the amount of light that is able to pass through the stone. The amount of light brightens the appearance of the stone, which is where it gets that undeniable sparkle. For example, if a diamond is cut too shallow or too deep it can decrease the amount of light making it appear dull or dark. Here’s an example of an emerald cut ring crafted by Robert Pelliccia exclusively available at J.R. Dunn.
This is really an oxymoron when it comes to diamonds, because the highest grade diamonds are colorless. However diamonds do come in every color of the rainbow. Color grade D means the stone is colorless and has a higher value than a diamond grade Z which has a light yellow tint.
Types of inclusions found in diamonds can be feathers, which are tiny cracks within the diamond that don’t have a large impact on durability. Crystals are another flaw that can appear in clusters which makes the diamond darker, lowering the clarity grade.
Last but definitely not least is carat, which is the actual weight of the stone. Carat sizes can range from less than one carat to over 100 carats. According to the Gemological Institute of America “rarity means larger diamonds of the same quality are worth more per carat.”
Now that you know your four c’s, we’ll see you at JR Dunn soon!
Nothing’s worse than being caught in last season’s hottest trend. Updating your jewelry collection is one of the easiest ways to transform your look this fall. However, the hard part is keeping up with the ever changing trends that come and go like the seasons. But don’t worry, you’re in luck because we’ve pulled together all the hottest trends.
Top jewelry trends include:
1. Gold, gold, gold. If you don’t have yellow gold jewelry in your wardrobe this fall you’re missing the mark. During New York fashion week we saw everything from long gold chains, layered gold chokers and even jewel encrusted golden crowns. This Roberto Coin 18kt yellow gold square hammered ring will make you feel like a princess. Because like all pieces from this world-renowned designer there is a hidden ruby which as legend states, brings the wearer happiness.
2. Be bold. In light of all the yellow gold this fall, another trending style we’re seeing is a little on the dark side. From serpent broaches to barbed wire ear rings, to punk style cuffs. It’s all about going for it and not apologizing. We love this Scott Kay black woven leather bracelet.
3. Go Bright. This is one of our favorite fall trends because you can use it to brighten up an otherwise simple outfit. The fun thing about color is that you can go as far as bright loud neon tones down to simple earthy jewel tones. We love this 18k gold Marco Bicego necklace with two rows of semi-precious gemstones because you can wear it with anything. This intricate yet simple necklace would add sparkle to a white t-shirt and jeans or your little black dress.
Now that you know what’s trending this season, which jewelry trends will you be sporting this fall?
The ring is one of the single most significant elements of engagement. Why? Because it is the emblematic expression of undying love. Romance is ultimately symbolized by the precious metal that lies on the bride-to-be’s finger. Many a groom will tell you that there is not only an abundance of pressure, but also an overwhelming amount of decisions when it comes to engagement rings. Where do you possibly begin? We here at JR Dunn understand the confusions that may arise when choosing an engagement ring, and after extensive research, we have found four hot trends to make your decision (and life) a lot easier.
Trend #1: Vintage
Perhaps the most popular engagement ring trend is the vintage style ring. This ring is inspired by old European art styles prevalent in the Victorian, Edwardian, and Art Deco periods. The vintage style features daring geometric shapes, dramatic ornamentation, rich colors, and stylistic fusion. Rings that come in this style display round and cushion cuts, elaborate architectural settings, and perfectly complementing stones.
Trend #2: Colored Stones
Colored gemstones can come however you like them. If you’re looking for a look that is both modern and traditional, colored diamonds are an excellent choice. The tint in the diamond not only hints at its unparalleled beauty, but its rarity as well. Only one out of every ten thousand diamonds are naturally colored. Although this aspect makes colored diamonds a bit pricey, they are all the more worth it. For a lesser but equally charming choice, other colored gemstones, such as blue and pink sapphires, are a great complement to an engagement ring.
Trend #3: Fancy Cuts
Modern cuts are an emerging trend that infuse a stylish flare in the ring. For those who want to maintain a sense of traditionalism while still incorporating a bold touch, the oval cut is for you. Similar to the traditional round cut but with an elongated shape, its slenderizing effect on the finger is astounding. For those who want to boast a more fierce style, the pear and emerald cuts are perfect. They both feature extended shapes and distinguishing facets.
Trend #4: Mixed Metals
Traditionally, the most popular engagement ring setting comes in platinum, but brides are becoming more transcendent as time progresses. Two-toned metal combinations, such as white and yellow gold or white and rose gold, are now popular. The contrast is a match made in heaven creating a result that’s overwhelming.
The Breitling Top Time watch in the picture below was recently purchased at a garage sale for a mere $30 and it is now projected to sell at Chistie’s auction for $60,500 and $90,750.
What makes it so valuable you ask?
This Breitling Top Time watch was ACTUALLY worn by Sean Connery in the 1965 movie Thunderball and no other examples of this watch exist! This watch was made by Breitling in 1962 and was tranformed into a one of kind piece by the James Bond art department. In true Bond fashion, the watch was not only cool it was also functional. The Q branch equipped it with a “Geiger counter” to detect any emission of Nuclear radiation.
According to The Telegraph, the watch was purchased at a garage sale by a bargain hunter a couple of years ago. The article goes on to say “Knowing they had purchased something quite special, the buyer, who wants to remain anonymous, took the watch to an expert to be valued. But they were said to be shocked to hear how much it was actually worth and of its film heritage.”
We have seen some pretty rare watches walk through our doors but none as cool as this!

The jewelry was intended to be lent out to grace the necks and ears of celebrities walking the red carpet. Apparently, the thieves took the entire wall safe out of the room of the Chopard representative who was staying at the Suite Novetel Cannes. Thank God she was not there when the burglary took place! Chopard jewelry is always a celeb favorite and Cannes is traditionally a big showcase for all of the big clothing designers and jewelry brands.
