The Resurrection of the “King of Cool” Steve McQueen

Steve McQueen is getting more and more popular. Even Ashton Kutcher and soccer star David Beckham both named McQueen their own personal style icon in Vanity Fair. McQueen was the king of cool during the 60’s and 70’s when he was known for his hard living and fast driving. He learned martial arts from Bruce Lee and always stated “I live for myself and I answer to nobody”. He was some of the coolest characters in some of the coolest movies of our time…The Getaway in 1972, Papillon in 1973, and The Great Escape in 1963 to name a few.

With the advance of technology, celebrities from the past are starting to appear in all kinds of advertising these days. McQueen was placed in a 2005 Mustang ad and recently you see the likes of Elvis driving around with Dolly Parton in a Cadillac convertable, and James Dean and Jack Kerouac showing up in Gap ads. It’s no wonder really that icons from the past are showing up in the media recently….with some celebrities flashing the paparazzi and getting into all kinds of trouble…the past icons are a safer bet and are forever young and cool.
