The romance and allure of signed estate jewelry is undeniable, but is it really worth more? This is an interesting question we get asked quite often about estate jewelry here at J.R.Dunn Jewelers. The answer really depends on the piece. It would be tough to get someone to pay a gigantic premium on a previously enjoyed signed engagement ring in a simple setting since a nice diamond is a nice diamond (if you are comparing apples to apples). The diamond makes up the lion’s share of the value in the piece and it will have to be competitive to what the current market value is. The fact that the diamond ring is a signed jewelry piece won’t necessarily make it command more on the secondary market but it will make it way more desirable and help it sell faster! On the flip side if we were talking about a wristwatch or a signature piece of jewelry instead of a diamond engagement ring, our answer could be very different. For example, if you were to compare the value of a pre-owned gold Cartier watch compared to a generic gold watch, the Cartier could possibly be worth ten times more! So the answer is it really depends on the jewelry item itself.
