Antique Engagement Rings and Vintage Engagement Rings; what’s the difference? Actually there isn’t one! Both terms describe a look of jewelry that mimics the styles from the 30’s and 40’s. These are rings that remind you of your grandmother’s engagement ring or the lace on her best tablecloth. It is a wistful romantic look that I believe all of us women start out wishing for as a young child when we finally realized why boys existed. Then we started planning our weddings at the ripe old age of 10.

Dont’ be a jewelry snob when it comes to solitaire engagement rings! Working for a high-end jewelry store for a few years can turn even the most practical down-to-earth-girl into a little bit of a “jewelry snob”. Even though I am a lover of John Hardy and Pianegonda (both very affordable sterling silver jewelry lines that we carry in our stores) I just can’t seem to help myself when it comes to diamonds….the more the merrier, the bigger the better, diamonds are a girls best friend, I could go on all day! DeBeers started the “Past, Present & Future” campaign a few years back and it’s powerful meaning took the jewelry industry by storm. James Marsden of X-Men fame did exactly what we were warning men not to do in a previous blog! On a fancy dinner date he presented his then girlfriend with a jewelry box and she thought it contained an ENGAGEMENT RING! It wasn’t, it was a pair of earrings! I don’t know who to feel sorrier for… the woman or the man! James proposed to this girlfriend a year later and they have one child. They have been married for seven years now.
