Corum Classical Billionaire Tourbillon | Women Are Embracing The Larger Timepieces

Corum Classical Billionaire Tourbillon WristwatchSometimes bigger is better…or at least more desirable according to an article in Newsweek this month. Women are starting to embrace larger timepieces then the classically smaller wristwatches from the past. One of the watch companies embracing this is Corum. They have the Classical Billionaire Tourbillon that measures 46mm (pictured here). Who wouldn’t want this watch! And, the trend just seems to be getting larger, even to the point of taking up the whole wrist. Quite a few watch designers are listening and making changes accordingly.

For instance Michele Watches has their Extreme Fleur that measures 39mm, Philip Stein wristwatches have some measuring up to 40mm in width and Chopard even has one of their Happy Diamonds wristwatch that measures 40mm. A lot of the time women are wearing the traditional men’s watches when the ladies versions do not come up to par. I actually didn’t realize how far the trend had progressed until I started talking to the ladies I work with and more than half were wearing larger watches and about half of them were wearing men’s watches!

So, watch out boys, we have taken your dress shirts and your boxers….now we might might be eyeing your watch.

I wonder how far this trend could continue. I am a thin ultralight guy with tiny wrists (5.5″ or so) wearing an el cheapo Seiko 5 at 37 mm which I bought only because at my self-imposed price limit I could not find any smaller mechanicals (even the “5” is not super cheap by third world standards). Amazingly, not just a few ladies in my workplace are beginning to wear bigger things than that! And their wrists are even smaller than mine! Who knows, things will probably get so big, it will become socially unacceptable if we don’t lug wall clocks around. Hey, at least those are more accurate than my fiver.
